Remember the old days when advertising was done thought newspapers and notice boards? Times have changed and the concept of advertising has as well! Now we see advertising on television, whereas we used to here it via the radio. We have also seen advertising on sites now, but before we would see it only in magazines and newspapers.
Now, back then when adverts on sites had just come into existence we would see huge ads. Ads that would take up the whole page and so on, your reward would be the money they paid you in return for the advertising space. Their reward would be the traffic and visitors you sent them via the advertising.
There was however a problem, that suddenly became a huge pop in the market. The ads that were presented on sites were not targeted. For instance, you would have a site that would present information about a candy store. But then you would have a huge banner advert on the side telling you to look into buying a new house. In the ad part of a newspaper, this was fine. However when it had noting to do with the site a problem appeared.
Now, you are looking through facts of candy stores, possibly even looking for the closest one near you. Who knows? You may have wanted to buy a new house that same year, but the point was you weren’t looking to at that current moment. In fact, if the banner had of come up with more information about candy then you may well have clicked it. The guys at Google saw this and came up with an idea, that of Google Adsense.
Now rather then having to jump around like a lunatic to get people to put ads on your site, all you would do now is simply generate a quick code and place it where you liked on your site. This would be after you had signed up with Google Adsense of course. They would then place a banner in the exact spot you wanted it to appear, and it would be related to your content.
Google does the targeting part quite easily. They search through your site, find the main keywords and place ads that are on something similar. Now, what is good about this is people are actually interested in clicking on your banner ad! It’s not like they are going to want to know about something else, they see that they are interested and you have yourself a click!
But the people that would once advertise on unrelated sites could now do so, but properly! This would work brilliantly as they would have their banner on a niche the same as their own. The way it worked was great as everyone would win in their situation. The person that ran the site would make money form clicks, the advertiser would get targeted traffic and Google got a fair share.
Google has of course set particular rules to what you can do with their ads. For example you can only have a max of three text and banner ads on your site. From the moment you go over your ads will no longer show up. You also couldn’t click on your own ads, nor have people intentionally do so. This would result in a possible ban and thus you would no longer be able to use Adsense on your site to profit from. The Adsense banner design was of course a lot cleaner then some other companies that would pay you to have their banner on your site. The Adsense banner wouldn’t be huge, but it would require you to think a little more when placing your ads on the site.
Google Adsense is a program different to many others. It allows you to place targeted ads on your site and at the same time profit form them. If someone wanted to get traffic from adverts as an advertiser they would pay Google to do so. If anyone wanted to have Adsense ads showing on their own site, they would then get paid by Google for every click thorough they received.
The whole process was new at the time and has now become one of the most recognizable programs. It is great from every view; the visitor can get extra information and not be annoyed. The advertiser could get targeted traffic that resulted in many sales; and the publisher would have targeted ads on their site without having to search around for people to advertise.
