The sun is beating down and spreading its loving rays on the fertile ground that swallowed the seeds you so carefully planted. The day before the sky shared a copious shower bathed your backyard soil and quenched its thirst. Yes the elements are all doing their part in the progressive steps of nature that yield a garden’s produce.
But we all know that there are a few deeds that fall on the gardener. In fact the gardener is in tune with nature. He works as a liaison of sorts between his calculated planting and the course of nature. Yes there is much work to maintain the optimum growth potential of your plants.
In previous discussions we have discussed cultivating your affiliation markets, your e – commerce, your auction site, and your blog. Today we will probe a little into building an Internet research. Ready?
As in the previous articles we have already started out of the gate and our Internet Research career has begun. Opportunity has presented itself. What are we doing to maintain and grow?
Taking the idea that we have entered the world of research, our first goal is to be determined to continue to learn more about our business and be determined to improve our skills and efficiency. At this point we should also be clear on the areas of research we are best qualified and be prepared to go in that direction.
Is our area of expertise in finance?, The medical field?, Legal matters?, Numbers and history? The options are abundant and not necessarily exclusive. However it is beneficial to know our strengths and weaknesses. It is perceptibly to your advantage if you focus your skills and talent on one area of expertise. Now I’m sure there are some out there who pride themselves in multitasking and maybe you are. For the most part or as a general rule, it would be wise to at least to maintain a narrow target in the early going. In time if you can handle multiple areas of expertise, go for it!
For now let’s assume you are like me and you prefer building up a head of steam. Yes starting in deliberately but within the framework of one field at a time. Let’s say you are going to do legal research. Nice choice. Research plays an enormous role in the legal world.
It may be helpful if you sign on with a research team at a legal firm to learn the ropes. For that you will have to have put together some kind of resume and go land yourself a position at a firm. It is likely you have some experience or you would have not made it this far to begin with. On the other hand you may have established yourself as an independent researcher.
Now whether you seek to learn under the guidance of a team/employee environment or you wish to expand your independent research work, it is imperative that you stretch the boundaries of your working knowledge by increasing your trade knowledge and productivity. Considering the professional nature of Internet research, you may seriously consider some schooling in the areas of your focus and in Internet Research.
In a similar vein you should extend your abilities with a computer and the Internet. This should include learning off all the latest technology and software related to Internet research. The underlying point here is that the more efficient, accurate, and productive you are the more valuable you will be to your clientèle and future clients.
Again keeping in mind that you are likely to be involved in detailed and professional data should motivate you to get into that field as much as you can. So back to the example of the legal researcher: in that case you will search data reference to past court findings, past case studies, present legal procedures, back ground info on people related to case, or any other relevant data to help the firm or legal counsel to proceed prepared and on top of the case or cases at hand. The more you understand the law and the justice system, the more you will be able to present the research in a suitable, tactical and expedient manner. You will be more than an Internet researcher. You will be Internet researcher/assistant.
Obviously the basic principles we have considered in the example of a legal Internet researcher can be and should be easily applied to any other possible professional field in need of an Internet researcher.
Aside from honing and improving our skills we also need to take care of marketing our services. Now if we are going to take a job on a research team to get some time under our belt to grow then we will not need to worry about finding customers at first. But we should earn a reputation for commitment and quality work. This will help down the road if you do need to pursue customers.
For those who are on the self employment path, you may consider common approaches to seeking work. Direct advertising through phone books, ads, marketing, and face to face proposals will be wise. Naturally the Internet should be another method of seeking clients.
Frankly this is the type of business or profession that is largely influenced by your performance. Yes the more you prove yourself the work will come to you. Some of that is because people who need research value someone they can trust and someone who will deliver. Your reputation will precede you. And in the research business that is golden.
So where are you at this point? Well once you determine that, then it’s time to get your strategy together and systematically move forward. Just like in your back yard garden, you will obviously make some rookie mistakes but it’s all in the learning process. However you can minimize those mistakes by learning as much as you can and preparing for your work as an Internet researcher.
The work is out there. We live in a world that thrives on data. We live in a world that uses precedents from the past. We live in a world where professionals need top notch researchers to help them. That can be you!
