Inside of all of us is a little guy or gal that wants to be noticed. Not in an egotistical way either. Sometimes it’s nice to have our work noticed and appreciated. Additionally for those of us who are earning an income from our expressions and presentations we have a dual purpose. We would like the fruits of our labor noticed and we are hoping that it translates into a patronage or a business trade in our favor.
Yes we want web surfers to enjoy our web page but we also aim to provide a service, product information, instruction or product for purchase on their behalf. Logically we are confident and optimistic that this will generate an income. And when done correctly it will and it does.
Obviously for all of this to work it all begins with people knowing who you are and what you are about. And not coincidently the term Net surfing is related to persons searching the web. And no doubt all of us are familiar with the search engines provided by Internet servers designed to help surfers find you. Thus it is important to understand how they work and how to use them to your advantage.
Regardless of the search engine there are certain commonalities to all of them. Each search engine has a program that has what is called a search analysis algorithm that instructs the search engine how to rank or list a result page. Simply put, these algorithms are given a list of prioritized criteria to apply. It is weighted on things like keywords, relevance, references and frequency and the cumulative effect of these types of things. For a deeper and more detailed insight of how a search engine spits out results, take the time to do the research. But for this article you basically just need to understand that a search engine has a pre-programmed formula to analyze a web search.
But it is also important to remember that the system weights importance in the eyes of the search engine company. Interestingly the page ranking system was developed by a fella’ named Larry Page. It’s no coincidence then that Google has the trademark to the term named after Mr. Page, “Page-rank”. And Google, like all the other search engines, sets their algorithm based on variables they have resolved as being most important.
The trick is for a web master is to manipulate or influence your web page to appear high on the result page. This is what is called page ranking. Based on what we have discussed than, you can see that to do this you need to know what the search engines have determined as being the important components. It is their algorithm.
Here are a few of the biggies to apply:
- Relevance is important and not just relevance as in relating to your topic or theme, but search engines, like Google, respond to current and hot of the press news and content. Therefore, where appropriate you need to keep up with fresh installments. Obviously if your site is a blog it is easier to apply this practice. Nevertheless even if your site is designed to offer a service or a product it is still essential to present your site with progressive and up to date content. Ask yourself “What are people interested in right now?” This will help your page ranking.
- Don’t try and cheat by copying and pasting posts from other web sites. The Search engine frowns upon that not to mention you are probably infringing a copyright. Be original. Now this does not mean you can’t occasionally quote other sources or refer to items you discovered elsewhere on the net that is useful to your content.
- Back linking to other sites is always helpful. Especially if you continue to add more links continually and find sites that are very popular to link to.
- Post daily and often. I have read where some web masters suggest posting 2 or 3 times a day. Then also allow sufficient time to work on your ranking and other SEO duties.
- Don’t try and outsmart the search engine.
Now that you have the rundown of practices that will increase your page rankings, take time your time to meditate on the above principles we have discussed. As we intimated earlier, it would help if you continue to acclimate and modify your working knowledge of page ranking and work it the best you can.
Hey, I’ll see you at the top!

It is said “Additionally for those of us who are earning an income from our expressions and presentations we have a dual purpose. We would like the fruits of our labor noticed and we are hoping that it translates into a patronage or a business trade in our favor.” Well, indeed, most people would agree with this thought.

I’m very interested in SEO and i’m experimenting with my site for reaching first page in main search engines. My big doubt is: Page Rank is important or not? If so, how important is?
Thanks in advance for your answer
