Default Top Online Languages

The top 5 online languages are:

English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and German.

This is according to the Internet World Stats.

How many of the languages do you know?

Geee...I wonder, why is it that French is not in the list? It's one of the official languages of the UN. Where do you get the stats from? That really comes as a surprise.

Source is Internet World Stats; they have a website. French is number 6 if I am not mistaken.

It somehow comes out odd to me. I just wonder how credible the source is. One can always give a finding but without supporting stats, who knows how accurate it is.

Well I supposed there is some research methodology and data collection involved. But I like you skeptical attitude towards these kind of data - only 5.47% of the population think like you. Oops sorry, I made up that last statstic

Ya that surprised me too. French is persistent in many countries. Its also second language used in Canada and many parts of North America.

Even due to its acceptance I have started to take lessons in French since couple of weeks. Almost about to get over

That's why most of the time I don't trust online stats and findings. At times it can be very misleading and they don't provide supporting facts as to how they reach their consensus. In fact France have a lot of colonies, so their language is very much used on those countries.

Ya thats very true. May be they come to those stats via means of online surver or members votes. So in that case if 60% of the participating crowd is Spanish or South American then its obvious that English ans Spanish would be on the top of the list.

Another posibility is that China is highest populated country so thats why Chinese is topper in the list.

Yeah, somehow I suspect that as well and have doubts over the findings. But I'm definitely convinced that French should be on the top of the list more than German

Hmm.. thats fine.. May be you know those to cos you stay in china or surrounding.

But it also depends on the place where you stay. It isant of any point for a person staying in US and not knowing French or Spanish. In the same way its with other languages.

But basically English can be considered as an Universal language if I am not wrong.
