Itunes blocked in China?

itunes download hit a snag in China recently, sparking fears that the Chinese government might have blocked Apple's site over pro-Tibet songs. Other people had blamed the download problems on technicak glitches.

This alleged blocking whether true or not brings to the fore the unprecedented challenge the Internet has on censorship.

It may not be blocking at all. It may simply be that given china's huge population that the site was over whelmed by the number of people downloading material.


However It seems far more likely that the government in China has in fact blocked the web site.

That is the problem when a country is perceived to be a censor-happy country where a simple technical foul-up can be construed as a major conspiracy.

Well that is a big problem for China. The same applies to its human rights record. People are not going to beleive a regime as controlling and brutal as this one.

On this point, I am in total agreement with you again. China had wasted so much money on the Olympics and the payback is doubtful if any.

Well everyone hoped the Olymics would result in greater freedom of speech, freedom of movement and basically more rights for individual chinese. It was hoped that even if the authorities eaed off during the games it would have a long term impact on chinese society. Unfortuantely it does not seem to have worked
