Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
A survey showed 49% of undergraduates have plagiarised work while studying at Cambridge.
This not-surprising finding is rather disconcerting as Cambridge is probably the most prestigious of Briitish's univerisities.

Re: Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
Did you not see the story about the Iranian Interior Minister. He was sacked for faking a Oxford university degree parchment. It will ahve been missed as a story by most , th eUS election has pretty much dominated the news globally.

Re: Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
Well it is a crome on campus and it probably will get you removed fromt he course if you get court or are far to enthusiatic in your copying. If you are going to do it you must cover your tracks well. Often their is a fine line between plagiarism and just not referrencing your work correctly with footnotes and so on.

Re: Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
Those that engage in plagiarism only have themselves to blame for their failure in the future. They will never be independent and obviously these people lack creativity.

Re: Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
I guess sometimes this can due to carelessness and sloppiness in not having the proper attribution and credit for the sources and the internet certainly has made us lazier.

Re: Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
The internet has made us all lazy, without question. University lectures also hate wiki with a passion and who can blame them. Sudents are actually starting to quote the websie in foot notes and referrence

Re: Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
Way of the world. graeter access to the internet gives students greter and easier access to resources. I can fully understand why students, especially university students find it easier to search for information on-line instead of in a big thick text book. equally I understand why lectures oppose the idea.

Re: Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
I wouldn't define this as new news. This is probably consistant throughout the world's Universities. There are a lot of lazy people around who don't want to put in the research.
I mean cliff notes for instance have been around for years and years. They are even professionally published now.

Re: Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
With emergence of the internet, no doubt we will get better access to information. But the true culprits are the students themselves. When they cheat, they are the one who are at loss.

Re: Half of Cambridge students engage in plagiarism
That is the most telling part. Even if you don't see yourself as a good writer or maybe you are not trying to put information in your own words helps you grasp the information more thoroughly.
So at the very least you can actually learn something.
