Bush plans final surge in Afghanistan

The pieces appear to be in place. A U.S. National Intelligence estimate states that Afghanistan is currently in a "downward spirial" To counter this the Bush administration has apparently planned a final surge operation after the success in Iraq.

The plan to be implemented in November, just prior to the American election, calls for a massive input of economic aid, some hard love for the Karzai governemnt, 10,000 for U.S. troops and probably a smaller increase in British forces, strikes deeper in to Pakistan and talks designed to split the Taliban, Al-qaeda and Hekmatyars milita.

Im just a little bit confused. So bush plans to remove all troups from afganistan? If he does that will be his smartest decision yet.

where have I said Bush plasn to remove all troops from Afghanistan? He plasn to surge, more soldiers, more boots ont eh ground to secure development areas where aid can be pumped in while at the sametime trying to draw the Taliban away from Al-qaeda. Exactly the same model as Iraq.

Doing it just before the American election ensures that whoever wins, Democrat or Republican is stuck with the policy for at least the first year of their administration
