Another saga of this excellent antivirus software. Today I just downloaded the latest version and I'm nothing but full of praise for this fledging software. Not only does it continue to be offered free but also there are several enhancements worth checking for.
One of it is the integrated internet browser whereby let's say when you type a search keyword in SE and the results shown, the antivirus will automatically scan the sites and tell you which one is potentially harmful before you even open the link.
Are you sure its free. Just wanted to confirm because I read it somewhere that from end May or June AVG would no longer be free.
And now here you'r saying that you downloaded AVG 8 for free?? Is that the latest version.
I have stopped using AVG though but lastly what I used was mostprobably something 7.2 or 7.x something???
I did try to find out about the paid thing of AVG. The do have a paid version but aswell they have a free version too
The free version is only limited to Anti-Virus:Protection against viruses, worms and trojans Anti-Spyware:Protection against spyware, adware and identity-theft Safe Search:Safely click search results
And mostprobably free version is without any updates.
But the paid version has lots of more features like Protection against hidden threats that deliver malicious content,Anti-Spam,Firewall,Safe Downloads,Safe Instant Messaging,Safe Surf,Free Support
You can find out more details at their official site at: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
After trying for 3 days, I did notice there's a considerable lag in computer speed. Although I like the level of protection given, I have to turn off the auto link checking and the resident shield to avoid the speed delay. But overall, I would still use it especially if I download any suspecting file from internet source.
Oh is it that slow??? But most of the times if you have any internet security enabled may it be AVG or may be Nortion it always decrease the speed to some extent as it checks the packets sent.
Even I prefer to disable it and scan my PC on regular intervals and scan downloaded files regularly. But the I also have my firewall in place which does indicate if any problem arises or any malecious scripts are detected.
Yes, it does lag you down slightly, but it's still not as much as a CPU Whore as McAfee or Norton. For minimal lag, and maximum protection, I'd reccommend NOD32.
Yup. The difference in terms of speed it is very noticeable. For the moment, I'm maintaining my current setting not to have real time scanning. Anyway, for a free product, I think it's excellent. Better than having security lag, I guess.
I guess if we want free products, we have to lower our expectations and just take the free basic version instead of paying extra to get a "premium" version with more capabilities. Sometimes I wonder if it is worthwhile to pay for these extras.
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition is an anti-virus scanner offers to resident protection, e-mail Scanner, On-Demand Scanner, and Virus Vault for safe handling of infected files.
