Default Avast! anti-virus

Avast anti-viurs is a lovely little free piece of kit which actually does a very good job for its size and resource usage. The main feature of Avast is the "old school" boot scan.

These are slowly coming back into the light as this is one of the best ways to detect and remove viruses, and to date I havent found a virus which can avoid it!

Now this is the one which I've heard numerous times with good reviews but have yet to use it. I'm currently using AVG, maybe it's worth checking out some time later.

Geee....If you run it together wouldn't it be taking too much system resource? My Acer celeron laptop always slow down when there's any application running in the background so I usually keeping to minimum all running programs. Is Avast any exception to that?

Avast has never caused me any problems, the best thing is you can easily lock it without having to spend ages trying to find the settings. Nice little piece of kit

Well, this is something new. Then it should be worth the consideration. Even my AVG will cause slow down at times until I have to turn off the real time scan. Geee..I didn't know you can lock the software if needed.

Its really just to stop people closing it down (my brothers have done that so many times before causing the PC to be overwhelmed by viruses)

I'm not like to run many antivirus at one pc. So far, i already try avast. but its not really nice to me. maybe thats just my feeling. But i just prefer with my nod32 antivirus. So far, avast also a great antivirus. Its just like AVG too. But its up to you want to choose which one you want for your PC right?

It's pretty powerful, but it still misses a few annoying trojans. If you're going to scan a single file, I'd recommend using [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], as it uses 32 different scanning programs for you, for free.

Hey but then what I see at virus total is you need to upload that file to check it. Oh thats why you ment if for single file???

That can be a good option for files downloaded from the net to detect the latest treats. But wont be much helpful for bigger files most probably???

Yup, if your planning to scan for a virus on a very big file, VirusTotal becomes obsolete, but if you need to to run a scan on a small file, VirusTotal is the tool to use.
