Wow I have much to learn.

Is there an instructional site that I can go to and learn what all these things are? I mean I kind of know what a domain name is but I have no clue what SEO or an adsense is.

I have used Wordpress to write for other sites however. I wouldn't know how to set my own up though.

But thank you for opening my eyes to realize their are opportunities. All this time I was thinking I would find someone to pay me a reasonable amount to write for their site. But if I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like I would gain from setting up my own page of content.

Yup. If you are aiming for fast gain, then providing content creation service is much better but if you are aiming for something long term then you should consider setting up your own site. Basically there are also 2 choices or path to take to monetize your site. One is adsense and another is affiliates.

Just browse around the forum and you will get almost all the answers that you want.

Frankly at this point I wouldn't know what a reasonable rate is.

On one hand I am not a money driven person but I would like to make a nice side income or a living from writing. But at the same time I know when you are unproven or unknown you have to be willing to under sell yourself.

I also not have a reference point either. And yet on the other hand I can always just consider what I feel is a worthwhile compensation for doing something I love.

Add to the fact that I can write some very interesting articles on various timely topics. Music and sports would rank the highest on my list but I am very adept with current events, history (Biblical or secular), or even somewhat controversial thoughts. And I am sure there are other subjects I could tackle.

The best part is I can write a 500 - 1000 word article reasonably fast. Actually I have been a songwriter for over 25 years but I have always been a hobby article and story writer. So writing comes natural. It is only recently that I have been determined to explore a career in article writing. That being said I would also put more research and effort based on what I was being paid.

So what is a reasonable fee by today's standards? I mean is $10-$25 a ridiculous fee for an interesting quality 1000 word article? Is that a pipe dream or are there writers who even command more?

First thing first, to answer your question here, you must think as if you were the buyers. If you have a website monetizing from adsense or affliates the article must be able to generate enough traffic in order to earn back the money paid. For 1000 unique visitors, the conversion is roughly about 1% which means 10 clicks out of 1000 visitors. If 10 clicks generate 0.25cent (average for adsense), per day you should get $2.50. You will need 100 days to cover back the investment of $25 paid to the writer.

So do you think as a buyer, you will take that kind of risk?

I completely understand that hwang.

I was attempting to address a more generic scenario. Writing for an established traditional style site that is more newspaper or magazine like.

Although perhaps I am not grasping the type of writing that people on this forum are seeking?

That being said I have read of posters who get $5 for a 400 page article. So I am not sure what to make of that.

The bottom line is I am here to learn and contribute. I really do not understand the complicated protocol at times. I was asked what I would like to receive monetarily and I gave an honest answer. In turn I welcome any one and invite everyone to stipulate what type of content they seek and what they care to or can render to the provider.

As a reminder to all of you I want to re-emphasize I am just learning the cyber set-up.

@A-NAT
Don't get the wrong idea.... Myself as anybody is also here to learn so I hope my words don't offend or get misinterpreted.
One thing which I forgot to mention is that the average 0.25 cents per click is just a rough estimation based on a general niche (wallpapers, gaming, general blog, gardening). There are some like banking, stocks, forex, health which pay much higher than that so there's are other factors as well.

Usually what you can see is that articles buyers are usually looking to buy articles in high paying niche (like the one that I mentioned) and that's why they can afford to outsource the job to others to write for them. These niche pays something like $1 - $5 per click so it's a different scenario.

If you want to sell your articles, then go for these niche. I hope my explanation is clear.

Since you are looking for a writing job and we are looking for writers, I though that you wouldn't mind my interruption. Sorry if you do

hwang - you never have to worry about offending me. You have been very helpful to me here actually.
I think at times we are just coming from a different angle. And why you may have a lot still to learn you are a light years ahead of me.
So keep expressing and explaining what you know and what you have come to understand please. Any confusion between posts, I am confident that you and I will clarify.
