Default newletters

Each of us should have a newsletter on our site as well. This is a great way to get repeat visitors and email addresses to send ads to. Create a newsletter and then have a form where people can sign up to recieve the newsletter to be sent to thier email address each month or every two months - depending on how much content you have for a newsletter.

You will then want to archive all the newsletters on your site so someone can look at the older ones that they may have missed.

I think you will find that people that have sites relevant to your newsletter will ask to be included in your newsletter as well. More interest - more traffic - create more email addresses for a mailing list. Lots of good things come out of creating newsletters.

I think people nowadays are less compelled to subscribe to newsletter. There has been constant rumbling whereby mails get spammed daily until the person gives up. I think this method has been abused somehow. Myself I use to subscribe to newsletter but nowadays no longer do that anymore.

hwang,

Thank You for sharing your point of view. Just because it is different from mine - it is refreshing and those that agree with you will find it good to have someone that believes the same.

I do not agree, though, that newsletters are a thing of the past. I, myself, still sign up for newsletters on other's websites. When I sign up for a newsletter - it is my choice to get info from these sites. They send me info when they are running specials, when they get new products, when a new service becomes available - I really enjoy getting them.

Now, if I sign up for a newsletter and I get a ton of spam - with no useful info - if they are just constantly sending me crap - then I go back to that site and I asked to be removed from the newsletter. All is fine after that.

I agree with you that it can cause spam and that people are afraid of that, but I think those that don't apply to newsletters they would be interested in just out of fear are missing out on some enjoyment in their life and some good deals.

Everything in the world that has ever been created has been abused by someone - we just have to make sure we have a way of protecting ourselves from them.

Thanks again for your post, hwang. You did bring up a good and valid point.

Connie

Just my thoughts and views. Hmm.. I was mistaken here for that assumption. Seems like there's actually people like yourself still subscribing to newsletter. And it's well pointed out that it's not the newsletter which is deemed useless but the actual fact is that it is the system that is being abused in the first place. Even some providers also went overboard at times when after you send a unsubscribe request they still ignore and keep on continue sending the newsletter. As you mentioned, this is clearly abuse.

I think newsletters to emails might appear to be a bit outdated to some these days too. Another great way to stay connected to customers is through blogs.

Sometimes it is important to do EVERYTHING - old & new. In my business I cater to the older crowd and the younger crowd so I have to do things to get the attention of both and to make both feel comfortable dealing with me.

I made a news letter once, but people couldnt take a joke (70% of them) when I said:

By reading this e-mail you agree that I can sell your e-mail address to myself causing me and my site into poverty but at the same time making £1000000's.

People couldnt see the joke in that one line they complained about me selling their e-mails.

Even after explaining I was threatend with legal action.

Was fun!

Dude you are really something here. Maybe you should include an emoticon in the newsletter so that people don't get the wrong perception.
If you didn't mentioned that it was meant to be a joke, I would get the wrong idea as well.

After looking at the e-mail I sent it said the following:

"By reading this e-mail you agree that I can sell your e-mail address to myself causing me and my site into poverty but at the same time making £1000000's*

*Please note the rantings of a complete idiot come free with this e-mail.I never sell any e-mail addresses (maybe my own... need the money - joking) as I know how much it sucks!"

I hope when your subscribers starts to know you, they will not bother about it anymore. I'm sure letting them know about your intention is better than sending those messages to someone who can't take a simple joke.

Newsletter is no longer effective since many people consider it as a spam and they will just send it to the spam mailbox without ever read it. Its good if you have a targeted reader or visitor, but not everyone could be like that

Maybe you can try what Llamalord is doing. Send surprises to the subscribers. To think of it, it's really funny
Anyway, it depends also. If the topic is good, I think most people would be willingly subscribe to it.
