Hacking sites and server!!!!! How to avoid???

Any specific tips or do's and dont's to be safe from online hackers???

I have noticed people getting hacked for their sites and quiet a lot of times for forums. Thats preety sad and disgusting too.

By the way how do these hackers hack the sites and forums. Some of them even hack your whole hosting too? Any particular way or hing with which you can be safe from such online hackers.
