Question Becoming a site administrator!

Hoe does one actually become a web site administrator and what is required on the position? Are there for example any expereince or qualification categories or can anyone do it?

I'm just wondering becuase you would think with the growth of the internet there would be a lot of job opportunities around!

If you create your own website, obviously you are the admin.

If you expect to get hired by someone as administrator, then you will need to have some experience to show how beneficial you can be as an admin.

You will need your "CV" updated with the latest sites you have worked for.

I have seen people creating websites where they offer their admin services among other things, like seo consultancy, proofreading, etc.

Basically you need to build some authority/reputation around your skills.

So it is possible without creating your own website to become an administrator, interesting. I presume sites whoses creatures are not the administrator are well established? I wonder how much recruitment actually takes place?

If you don't have your websites, you can always sell your services as a moderator and adminstrator to other websites or forums. For forums, if you post good stuff on a regular basis, you may be asked to start as a moderator.

So it could be said that its a case of who you know not what you know that will get you a job as an administrator or modrator on forums and websites. I will have to keep a lookout then.

So what is actually required of a forum administrator or moderator? Is there a job description available anywhere lol? Is the workload considerable or not and what are the financial rewards?

For a big company asking for mod's or admins they can offer anything from $100-$400 a month for 3 hours a day, but these companies ask that you know their product inside out and know a wide range of languages so you can help more.

Companies like blizzard are always looking for people to mod their forums and they pay well, but like I said you need to know ALOT to get the job, some sites will pick you sometimes if you show the following:

1. A good reply ethic
2. Very informative
3. Helpful attitude towards new people and questions you may concider "easy" or "below you"*
4. Report people who break the rules
5. Do not flame other members of a community/forum

* I have seen many forums which are ment to be helpful which I have joined to get some advice on squid (this is my own example) and after posting I get a reply saying "omg nub learn to script then some back" or "pffff not even worth answering"

These replies show me 2 things:
1. They are stuck up their own asses
2. They dont know the answer so they troll the forum looking to boost their post count

Generally you get picked just being helpful (god knows why I was picked on here tho :P)

IF the website is a company I dont think you will have good luck becoming an adminastrator. But you could always partner up with someone, and become an administrator that way.

Needless to mention. You will need at least the basic programming skills. Apart from that what is also needed is some understanding on database, server management, hosting,
