Alowing users to download a file from my hosting??? How can i do that?????

What i wanted to do is host a file on my host and provide a link to it from a page on my site!!!

So how can i do it???? Can any one help out????

I tried just placing the file in my hosting account but then it needs me to log in and download that file using the cPanel.


How can i make it direct, i mean allow user to download the file directly or may be ask for a particular pasword and then start the download process???

The best way to do this is to create a folder on your server and place the file you want to share with your users in that folder.

So if you want to share the file "testpro.rar" and named the folder "shared" , the link to your file will be something like....
http : // www . yourwebsitename .com/shared/testpro.rar

This can only work if the folder is placed somewhere after your home directory. Some servers call it /home/ or /www/ or public_html , etc.

Just let me know if something isn't clear and I'll work with you until you have it working

Hoho. Its easy to do that. Just do like Jordi said.

If you know how to use the link from your hosting. Its easy. But if you never know anything about how to make link. Its hard even we tell you.

Ive always found that placing a file in a new folder (the best one for it is downloads) you make yourself so you wont be able to make a mistake by deleting stuff lol.

As soon you upload something just test it with some simple html

<a href="url">Download</a>

Click it and it should work, unless you were looking more along the lines of a rapidshare site or ftp downloads.

Oh got it! thats preety easy.

I did not think of compressing the file or folder. Yes if its compressed or rar it will directly ask "open or save file".

Yap. Its easy anyway. Make sure you put the files you want people download in right area. If you put at wrong place. The link will not working. So far, just make one folder for every files you want share with others member. You also can set password for that folder if you want.

Oh really! Can I set a password for the folder too. How do i do that??

Something like after clicking on the link a password is asked and then proceeded either to the folder or to the download. Thats much much better.

If you manage to set your link download at your cpanel. You can set password at your cpanel. I'm not remember the step by step to did that. Try to search first. I think its easy to did that. I did that long time ago.
