How to avoid spam comments and links?

I get a lot of spam comments ( which are irrelevant to my posts and also posted on many blogs at the same time) and spam links very often. And, its not always possible to delete them manually on a regular basis. Sometimes, I get a huge bunch of spam after 4-5 days of checking my blogs back! Is their any way to get rid of them?

In word press you an control spam comments easily. Wordpress some features of Comment moderation with which none of the comments are posted directly untill and unless they are moderated and aproved by admin.

So that indeed would really help you to control the spam comments.

Wordpress has a feature called Askimet, which you can get an API code for from wordpress.com ; that's the best anti-spam system
It works perfectly on all my websites

Yep i have know about it "Askimet" but never happened to try it though.

Is it good? Anti spam in the sense What does that plugin actually do? Can any one specify it pleae? Looking forward to use it if its good enough.

Yap. Akismet can help for control comment spam. I also use this one and just wonder how many i get spam post everyday? Too many!!

Either way, you could also try to use Spam Karma 2 designed for Wordpress with many options available to filter out unwanted spams.

Never known about it??? Is it a wp plugin too??? Any idea where i can get it or any link to download???

Is it awailabl on the wp site and how about compatibility??? I am using wp_2.3 at the movement.

Why don't you make it so that they have to register an account before posting? Then you can moderate the spam by processing accounts manually to filter unwanted bots/users away.

Thats also another good idea. But honestly i hate that way. Why? Some people will not come again to our site if they know they need to register just in order to comment to our blog.

Now since i have started receiving som resonable traffic and some spaming bots too i have to switched to what you saidMade it compulsarey to sign up. Even noticed that even after allowing people to comment without signing up some people preffered to sign up too.That made me really feel good

I would use anti-spam software and any anti-spam features available to you. Of course, I would also go through and delete spam and junk comments as often as possible.
