what do you use DB for

What all do you use Data bases for on your website? I remember when someone was doing a site for me they said they set up a database but all my site really had was some about me information, contact information and then samples of my work.

Basically database is used to store any sort of records. Something like if you have a login or your site. Then there would be a database which would store all the signed users their names, email, pasword ect many more things. So when any one tries to login the script check for that name in the database and logs him if its there.

Even for a blog the users, comments and the posts are stored in a DB
