Directory site script????

What script does the directory sites online use??

Is it a ready made installable script or does it need coding. Planning to start up a directory site.

Any idea from where i can get the script? Or may be how about to code or build such sites?

You will be needing a dedicated server and host for starting a directory site (more so, if you are planning to start a free submission site).The scripts are written the same way,that we see in other website designs..and only difference comes along the automated submission generations and results which can also be encoded without much hassle.You can try contacting a programming expert for helping your site code and for cheaper programmers,try getting a freelancer.Good luck!

By the way was a bit surprised why directory would need Dedicated Hosting???

Would it not work on shared hosting?? Any specific reason for that????

And how about using some readymade scripts like PHPMyDirectory???
I think their scripts are readily available on their site. Version 2 is free though it sol but is preety good i suppose and version 3 costs something around $45.

Please could you comment on this?

I mentioned about dedicated hosting only if you plan to make a directory company with fully working interface, just like our major directories. If you want to start from a basic level, it would be better to go for shared hosting and later on you can always upgrade that, when your site gets popular (just to make all your submissions stored and listed till years). Again, try for the free version2 first and if all goes well, upgrade that too..Good luck!

Thanks. Looking forward to start on shared itself initially and see how it works initially.

There are lots of hosts providing large space and huge bandwidth upto 1TB. Would that not be enough.

Dedicated would cost me a lot and i wont be able to afford that incase if i intend to start a free directory. If i make it paid i dont think ill face that problem isant it?

Usually they would suspend your site before it reached that amount of bandwidth for using too much server resources. Shared hosting should do you fine for now.

Ya thats true. May be ill need to upgrade my hosting or buy extra bandwidth as soon i come to know that my bandwidth is gonn run out before time

But one more question goes through my mind is on a shared hosting hich provides unlimited domain hosting is there any particular bandwidth for a particular site alloted by the hosting provider?
