Default Open invitation to Hackers

Researchers at internet security company have effectively invited hackers worldwide to zero in after they prematurely leaked details of a serious flaw in the DNS. Details of the DNS flaw were revealed in 2 blog posts before they were meant to be annnounced publicly at conference next month. The post was taken down minutes later but word was already out.

The scramble for a patch begins in earnest now.

Companies are scared of hackers as we all know, hell the world is scared of them, but they should keep on walking along side them. Get a real hacker, not a script kiddie and actually pay them to hack into the companies site / software and actually show the security problems so they can be fixed.

A form of beta testing if you will

That therotically should be done for all systems before they go live. But unfortunately for whatever reasons (maybe ego, maybe cost considerations), they rather not know until the systems are being hacked.

Since the revelation about the DNS flaw, criminals have at least pulled off at least one successful attack, directing AT&T customers in Texas to a fake Google site. The phony page was accompanied by 3 programs that automatically click on ads, with profits from clicking go to the hackers.

In a related development, Russian physicist, Evgeniy Polyakov wrote in his blog that the DNS flaw can still easily be tricked into redirecting internet traffic. He was able to do just that with 2 standard desktop and a high speed internet link.
