Default One third in US and UK Copy DVDs

In a Consumer Home Piracy market research study in the US and UK, one third of all respondents from a sample of 5000 people admitted to having copied pre-recorded DVDs as reported by CNet.

They copied an average of 13 titles each in the last 6 months.

Not only US and Uk but I think that can hold true every where else too. Most of the people prefer doing that and every one nowdays have a dvd writer to their laptop or system.

This probably holds very very true for music and the mp3 and mp4 format of music is actually 99% copied and illegal stuff.

Yes, advancement in technologies have made it easier to copy or burn dvds, but that doesn't give justified reason to continue with the act. Certain Asian countries which I visited displayed pirated software openly and I feel this has gone overboard. It's similar like stealing...

Hwang that holds true in my country too. Lol if you check out you get XP's, Vista, top antivirus selling off on the roadside and footpath. And if you are talking about music then dont even bother to.

Lol you almost get all music disks the same day they are released or may be sometimes before that too

So you can imagine to what extent the piracy is spread.

Piracy is rampant in Asia because Asian consumers generally found original versions of softwares and DVDs too expensive. I am not defending piracy but I think it acts as a beneficial countervailing power against the immense power of copyright owners.

You got a point in there liowkc. Thats very true that the price defibately matter.

Before setting the universal prices the company should actually take into consideration the economic stability of the country or continent.
If they come up with he same price world wide then the countries with lower economy will suffer and that may be one of the reasons why these processes like privacy curb.

Sometimes they displayed the goods and items so blatantly like no one cares and even buyers were seen crowding around. Where is the sense of righteousness in doing such an act. Obviously it's not only the seller at fault but also the buyer.

The buyers are also at fault too but then if you practically every one as an buyer is prone to search for stuff on which you need to spend the least. Its a natural tendency to get in those with the intensions of saving some cash.

And musics and such stuffs do not live up with you for long untill and unless you are a genuine listner and collector of music.

For others its like once you copy the contents to your harddisk or you MP3 or ipod then you never need the disk any more in future.

Well both the demand and supply factors are the one that drives it. It is also a fact that law enforcement in the country are not strict which is also another reason why it is so rampant.

Anither reason for lax enforcement is piracy is seen as a victimless crime or simply an economic crime when nobody get hurts but of course the copyright owners will beg to differ.
