Default PayPal acting against Phishers

Paypal will block "unsafe browsers" from using its service as part of its anti-phishing efforts, BBC just reported.

A quote from paypal: " an alarming fact that there is a signiificant set of users using very old and vulnerable browers such as IE4."

I dont think paypal should consider their security based on version of the browsers. Thats totally ill.

Rather they should increase their security system, system of verifying accounts or scrutinizing new accounts.

I think most probably 60 to 70% of the people would be still using IE4 which they had got installed when the first bought the PC.

Rarely someone really intrested would update on regular intervals.

But its also the case that not much crowd would be using paypal. So inorder to attract much more crowd Paypal should not customise their site for latest browsers.

Also people with illegal versions on windows might attempt to download cracked versions of IE7 leading to more viruses / keyloggers which leads to more fraud. Nice one paypal

Let's watch what paypal do next - maybe come up with a list of unsafe browsers and close all the accounts of people using such browsers?

Interesting to watch - perhaps a classic case of creating 2 more problems in solving one.

Geee...To me, it's never an issue of "unsafe browsers". In fact basically what gets an account getting hacked is actually negligence on the part of the user themselves. Get their pc infected, left their password somewhere, logging to their account using mail links, etc....

Yap. If your account got hacked or infected, first. Blame yourself. Its because you let your guard down. Nothing we can do because some people like phisher or hacker just wait the chance to do bad thing to you.

The problem is that people decide to use very simple passwords, now dont get me wrong pointless passwords for access to basic stuff which has no information on me or anything else (for example a file download site like fileplanet) I keep it as simple as possible, anything that I use alot has a little more complicated password anything which holds money or my details has a lengthy one

Yap. My password also simple but its hard for people from outside my country to guess or hacked it. Its simple only for me. Yap, my advice, you can use crazy hard password combination. But never forget it.

Yeah something like this. But somehow, there are people who has something like 10 -12 characters password and did something silly by writing it down because they have a hard time remember such a long password...lol
