Unless you are into site flipping I would rather get a new domain and build it from scratch. It's more fun that way seeing the site grows and flocking with visitors.

As you say it rightly, a new domain will allow you to be the "pioneer" watching your baby grow stronger day by day and providing great satisfaction. But I guess more people would rather make quick money

Getting old domains also mean that you can avoid the dreaded sandbox mode google applies to new domains recently started in competitive niche.

Very true, there are many good reasons to go for old domains, even better if you actually know what the layout etc was on the original site, Ive seen people make £1000's off of this, they took the original layout, new content and then put there stuff in place, very few people notice the differences and the ad's still working a treat

Yup. And that's still considered white hat to say the least. Well, if one has to money to invest getting aged domain is actually a good idea.

This practice should not be construed as a blackhat practice as it is just like investing in a existing company with a certain reputation. Of course one have the choice to build from scratch.

Older domains have an advantage becuase its old enough for more sites to link to. If you could buy a new domain for 10 bucks or an old domain for 20 bucks your better off with the old domain.

I guess we must conduct a cost-benefit analysis of whether to acquire an aged domain; its advantages will also be reflected in the relatively high price.

True!! Flipping domains has really been a fast and huge income. But then its always dificult to get your hand over an old or aged domain cos there are thousand of people across the line to grab it.

But then what I wanted to confirm is will that domain still retain its Google PR after having a new registrar and new content???

Or may be you should be efficient enough to create very good content which is equivelent to the older content so that it retains its PR.

How does that work now!!

Most of the time the domain loses the PR after 2 or 3 PR updates. Nowadays, I've seen people openly sell PR1 aged domains for only about $80. Obviously their investment in it are much lower than what they sell.

It's not that they create 1 or 2 sites to flip. They create hundreds of them and imagine each of them selling for 80-100 in a single update.
