You might want to read this. Looks is DP doesn't want any banned activities on their site.

I think the whole exchange this is okay but to a certain point. I send links to my US friends all the time. I know in reality I want them to thumbs up it but I never say HEY CAN YOU STUMBLE THIS? and then have then do it because I want it. I say this is so and so, thumbs up if you like it. I have participated in a lot of the DP exchanges but to many people say it is "spam" I think they need to see what the word Spam means. As I said, just go about it the correct way and I think you will be ok. SU is not as strict as Digg is.

I think the reason that they ban it is because it is somehow like cheating. Can you imagine if you are doing stumble exchange. Even before the site finish loading or all the images start to appear, you already "stumbled" it. That means, nobody cares about it. What's the point in the first place?

To be honest I think that they are in the right here, loads of different sites have been banned or punished for other reasons from other companies / business / SE's for breaking their ToS.

What you might see as harmless they see as a breach and sometimes attack on their service. So they need to stop these things

I wouldn't say it's illegal but stumbleupon is just trying to make sure that only genuine sites receive real votes. That's why they try to ban this stumble exchange practice. I hope you get me.

We recently banned it at our forums as well. The reason it is it's manipulating and undermining the systems which are pretty cool and we all enjoy using them.

Posting publically about exchanges gets the sites in trouble and ultimately the user accounts banned. The more public the forum is the more exchanges you'll find and the more likely you'll be banned. It's just not a good long term idea for users or forum operators

I totally agree with this ban; it is good that some established websites like DP take a firm stand of such questionable practices of increasing links and page rankings.

To me, all forms of manipulations are wrong - there are honest if not hard ways to achieve the desired results.

It's like playing a fair game whereby the votes only go to the sites that truly deserved it. Well so much for the fun that once allowed. I really missed the good ol' times though
