Google backlink question

Does anybody has any idea why when we type let's say "link:www.oursite.com" and then check out the link, it only shows a certain amount of link when in actual fact, the site has lot more links that I know. It's rather odd because I know there are other links which I placed somewhere else. Does that mean that Google only indexed certain amount links?

Hey do you mean we need to type that in google search and look for results??? Dont know anythink like that.

I just tried doing that for my site, I mean typing it in googl and clicking search.. It only shows three results???

It's supposed to show all the links pointing to your site in which case, the number always show lower on what you always have. That's why I'm asking the question here.

Oh got it? But then how could it be that my site has just 3 backlinks.

Moreever let me tell you that the three links are from three posts at a forum and I have about 800 posts in that forum out of which only 3 are showing as backlinks.

Geee....That's why I'm rather confused myself. Not sure how they come up with those figure. Maybe it's showing that links at pages indexed by the search engine.

Hi, Llamalord, we are actually not talking about buying links. Do you notice that when you type "link:www.yoursite.com" at google, it will show you the amount of backlinks pointing to your site.

The issue here is quite weird since I know there are many more links pointing to the site but there's only a certain amount shown using the "link:" quote. Have any idea why the big difference?

Hey LOL i tried it again today and now it shows only two links

Poor me. I had three earlier they took back one from me

Google is known to have a problem with that.
If you type link: www*goashost*com you get one result and
if you type link:www*goashost*com you get a different result.

When you try, replace the '*' for '.'

The difference is the space inserted in between the ':' and the 'www'
go figure...

Uh. Ok. I tried as what you told and yeah it's correct. It's not accurate and somehow you won't believe that it is actually something coming out from google.
