building links

When you are building links you are building roads into your town.

Let's say you find this great piece of land that you want to build a store on. The problem is that it is out in the middle of nowhere (like your new store on the internet)

So you have to make roads so people can get to your store (or in the case of the internet - you build links) - how do you do that?

Well, you go into the nearest town and you tell just one person - "Hey, I just built a store and here is the address" (your first link) The person you are talking to says, "hey, that's great - I don't really have a need for that kind of store but I'll come out and see it and if I like it I'll tell my brother about it - he sells stuff like that too."

Well now you have Two connections- (two links)

Then when the brother finds out - well he wants to come see the store but it is an awful long way to go by himself so he asks his buddy to go with him - his buddy has been bored all day - so why not - sure I'll go.

Now you have Three links....

See where I am going?

Next thing you know this Tag along buddy says " this store is great! You are selling coffee makers and I am selling coffee in my store - If I send my customers to your store would you in turn send anyone that comes to your store to mine?" Maybe we could team up

Well there is your first reciprocal link

Then someone that goes to the coffee store, comes to your store for the coffee makers and they say, "Hey, I sell camping equipment - camp coffee mugs. If I give you a reduction in price - will you add my products to your store?

Well guess what - now you are wholesaleing. This just goes on and on and do you think that these people that are finding your store are keeping quiet about it if they like what they find?

Hell no - people love to talk - they will jabber about everything they can think of that they did today.

My whole point is - talk about your store, - add at least one link each day. LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK, LINK......

Build Links, you never know where they will end up.

Hey that's a nice example here you are providing regarding 1-way, 2-way and 3-way links

It actually explains a lot in lay man's term and is easy to understand. Would be able to help clear out doubts.

Thx. I always enjoy reading what you write. When I go to forums, I can't understand why people always put a lot of emphasis on it. Some offer link building service. It is important like a road to your house

Very Important. If no one knows you are there then why would they go there! We have to let ourselves be known. EVERY WAY YOU CAN. Anything you can think of. Build those roads.

How do I know a site is link farm? Is they listed somewhere in google ban list. I know they are bad but how to know the website is a farm? Oaklvr, you have knowledge in this. You can help me?

Link farms are basically FFA sites (free for all) and any site which seems to have a mass link of out bound websites. If you want to put your site on another one which has a submission page be careful, you may be walking into a mine field

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this. I missed it somehow. Anyways, the link farms are not really listed anywhere for you to check out and stay away from. They are as llamalord stated and a way to "notice" them is just to avoid having your link posted on a site that is not relevant to yours. If you only link trade with sites that are relevant to yours then you are set. No one will penalize you for having relevant links. A site that has thousands of links from bread to astronauts has been just putting any link they find on their site and the site is pretty much worthless. UNLESS - it is a directory of sites and the links are categorized. Then it is allowed as a directory - not a link farm.

Also, avoid places that want you to put a lot of links on your site from theirs with different descriptions and titles and different landing pages. They are just spamming. A link farm is like a regular farm. They have an abundance of links - like they were "growing" them. Understand?

Basically they are just a site whereby you can just submit your links and put it there. I return you have to select a link to put on your own site. It's just like a bunch of craps submitted there with uncategorized directory

Its just a pain that all these annoying little rules have to be followed so you dont get screwed over by google or another "internet governing body" (sorry but thats what google is now, its almost incharge of the internet lol - look at the evidence :P)

Yes,

I agree - they have taken over and it is not necessarily a good thing. When one place rules there is always problems because they say they look out for you but in reality they are looking out for thier own gain and thier own benefit.

Thx. I understand better now. Like that I will search for directory and submit. Will be careful if they ask for me to place their link at my blog. Useful advice to avoid link farm.
