What is actually cloaking?

I came across this term quite often but never bother to check it out. What is actually cloaking and how do you do it? Does it have anything to do with Blackhat and can it get your account banned? Just want to hear your views for knowledge sharing.

Dont know the exact meaning but its something like hiding about which i have known.

Some people cloak their affiliate links which means they shorten and hide those long affiliate links so that people dont eaily come to know that they are affiliate links.

Dont think thats its illegal cos mostly all using affiliate marketing are into it. May be doing something like that on your adwards account can get your campaing banned.

Ok I see. It's a general explanation but I still don't get it how they do it in the first place. Does it involve any software? Could they be using different domains and redirection to achieve it? I see this is illegal as well.

cloaking is used to hide affiliate links.
lets say i write an ebook about makeing money online. i give it away for free. i put in my refferID to an affiliatenetwork so i earn a % of everything they make threw the network useing the techniques i tought them in the ebook.

cloaking can be done alot of ways, the most commen is just redirecting.

cloaking can also be used to send fake clicks/leads to networks. <-- but i'm not going to share that one

I guess, this is what you call the honest or straightforward forum Now I know what you explained here darnightfall. So it's hiding your affiliate ID not to let people know eh. But wouldn't that be anything to do with crossing the legal boundaries? I mean can affiliate ban you for doing that?
