Okay I need the experts again!

Okay this is all new and I am reading and searching. But I also am a father, a boss, and a musician so I haven't had enormous amounts of time. So I was hoping for a little boost of knowledge.

What is the practical difference between a theme and a template?

How hard is it to learn the code language? IS that a Cpanel application?

Nope it isant a cpanel. cPanel is only a control panel from where you an control you site its nothing different from FTP. Its all and the same but has a couple of more features.

Template and a theam is same. Its just a new look for your site. I mean better looking clothing for your site. You only need to download the template and upload it via FTP to your template ot themes foldr and then activate it from your wordpress admin.

Its that simple. Themes makes site look better and more attractive. Also helps with ads placement widgets ect in general layout of your blog.

Yup basically if you look at broader aspect, both template and theme is basically the same.
No WP is about copying and pasting codes

I think whatever online tutorials out there are easy to follow. You don't have to be programming wizard but a basic understanding of html codes is more than sufficient.

BTW people learn from mistakes. So youll learn things when you start messing around.

Lol yesterday I screwed my whole site. It wasant connecting to the DB. But then I got it fine later and also learned what the mistake was and what has to be done

BTW would like to suggest you something. Just sign up for an account at any one of the free web host available online. Let them have ads or whatever. You dont need to host there. Just try out stuff there and try installation of blogs and other stuffs aswell as just try out a dummy blog there.

Ther's nothing you got to loose. I learnt that way. Not only blogs but lol I even tried out forums and what not

Its really exciting.

Wow! I actually guessed correctly. I had a notion that a theme and template were basically the same or very similar. I guess theme sounds more professional. Plus it appears that a theme is a template with a topical look. Thus the name theme.

I like your idea of dummy blogs, Lifer.

And I really do appreciate the knowledge and suggestions. I genuinely enjoy our threads also.

Hey, I think it's a good suggestion by life31. You can play around, experiment and I feel the best way for you to learn is to have hands on approach.

Exactly what I ment above. To be sure or know anything proper you need to have "Hands on approach" and thats the reason why we have practicals and laboratories in our schools and collages.

The more you do it personally the more pro you are

Basically all the interface are more or less the same once you get the feel of it. Nat, You might want to take note on what fantastico option is. This is something you should look for in a host.

No doupt fantastico scrips help a lot lot. They make your things very very easy. There its just a metter of 3 clicks or steps and you are done with any installation you want.

So did you descide or choose any new theam for your site. Hwand did suggest some good places to look for. There are neumorous available on the net and that too free.

I am still working on the THEME. I can't seem to get other themes into my WordPRess administrator at this point. I am trying to master Word Press before I work with other suggested web sites. I mean I have kept a list of place that you all have generously shared. I have even looked at some of them.

It's going to take me a little time to get it where I want it but it will happen.

In the meantime I appreciate your suggestions and help. It will make it go faster because of all of you.

To get the theams in your admin you need to upload the theme into your themes folder first.

The themes folder is in your wordpress installation files, I mean in your root folder. Not sure if its in the wp_content but feel that its there itself.

Go to the wp_content folder and then theme and upload the theme files there via FTP.

Then go to your wp admin area ------ themes ----- and activate the new theme there. Thats it.

If you need a detailked tutorial le me know. Will take out time to post it in the tutorial section.

No not exactly. Its the same thing if you buy hosting from a company or from anyone else.

Thers no difference. In wp all you need to do is use the admin region and you can do each and every tsk from there.

BTW which version are you using. Cos some old themes can give you some problem if you are using 2.7.1. You can use any theme which supports 2.5 or later with 2.7.1
