Default Does having high number of low PR link affects optimization?

I thought I would like to listen opinions from really experienced members. It may sound complicated or weird but I would ask anyway to clear my confusion.

Scenario 1

If let's say you have 1000 backlinks and 950 of them are basically crap links with no PR. Does it anyway liquefy the effect of the other 50 good quality links?

Scenario 2
Maybe another scenario is that, it would be better if you just have 100 link and 50 of them is good quality. Does google take consideration into that and cause you to have low PR in scenario 1 and you have a better PR in scenario 2?

In terms of SEO languages, would the first scenario whereby you have bunch of no quality link affecting or maybe I would say abolish the effect of the good quality links?

Any and all links are good as long as they are RELEVANT to your site. Google will punish a site that has links that are not relevant - they will consider the site not credible.

Please remember - we are to build for our CUSTOMERS first not the SEARCH ENGINES. That being said - Your site will naturally have links from sites that have low rank and links from sites that have high ranks.

I beleive you are asking about sites linking back to you though and in this case it is still good to have as many links linking back to you that you can even if they are not high ranking. If they are high ranking this is of course better for your site and makes your site look more important but we should never count out the lower ranking sites. Keep in mind, someday these lower ranking sites may just move up in ranking and you have them in place on your site already.

Yes, it is better to have a few high ranking sites linking back to you than a lot of low ranking sites but don't spend too much time worrying about this. Just do things naturally and all good things will come to us in due time.

Just remember - RELEVANT LINKS ONLY!

Now relevant can be stretched a bit - like I can consider links from wedding sites on my wrought iron page because I categorize my wrought iron links page and I can put a wedding site link under the category of Wrought Iron Gifts for Special Occasions. See what I mean? Just make the link relevant someway to your site.

Well point taken on that. It's just that sometimes you would do a blog commenting on other sites and you just insert in the links. The site may not be relavant to your but it's just a norm that you introduce yourself through you link. Uh...never mind. I think i'll just discard and try not to put my website addresses next time when I do commenting just to prevent the whole issue above.

hwang,

It is okay to have your link on someone else's site even if your link is not relevant to theirs. If you are introducing yourself and you do so through a link and they allow that link then - go for it - just Don't put thier link on Your site. If they want to allow irrelevant links on thier site that is their problem. Not yours.

You have to worry about the content on Your site. And when you do put your link on someone elses site - even if their site is not relevant to yours - still use Your keywords in your link title and description. This would create a one way link and those are good.

Some people try to fill up their link pages with reciprocal links that are not relevant. This is what is bad. Reciprocal links (links where you are exchanging links with each other) are only good for you if they are relevant to your site. If you have a fishing site - do not do reciprocal linking with a mattress site - unless that mattress site has mattresses for tents. You see what I mean? Some people just build links no matter where they are to and this is what the search engines do not like.

Now, if you are on a forum talking about Sleep Serta Mattresses and they allow you to have a link to your store in you forum signature then by all means - go for it. But don't link back to them on your site. Leave it a one way link.

OK?

I did not mean to scare you or anyone else off from putting their signature on a forum or on another blog. Just be careful what you include on Your stuff.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

Connie

Yeah, you are right. Content is the king whereby it is the most important consideration amongst all. Well, what you say here really sums up a lot and clears a lot of issues and doubt. Thanks for it.

I am glad that you found my post helpful to you. Hopefully others will read what has been written here and it will benefit them also. I benefit from helping others here too because it reminds me of what I still have to do yet and what I need to keep focused on. It takes a lot of my time being here but I feel it is important to help others and not to be selfish with info. I don't know it all - there is much I still need to discover but I will share my understanding of what I do know (or what I think I know anyways, sometimes I am corrected)

Well basically my focus now is that if I were to start another new site, I would think twice before submitting links to any directory. I would consider and carefully select sites which are relevant before I proceed. Don't want to end up with bunch of links but with no quality or relevancy.

Very good. That is exactly right but keep in mind - submitting to directories is great but YOU choose which directory and YOU submit the Keyword rich text that you want them to display and YOU choose which category they display it in. Then all is great with the directory.

Well learned my lesson now. Last time I will do blog commenting as long as it is a dofollow and I don't bother whether it is related to my niche. Somehow I feel that has some negative effect as well because I'm actually diluting the importance of the other real quality links.
