Alt tags
It is a great idea to have alt tags in your source code also. Search engine spiders cannot read the pictures on your site but if you have alt tags on your pictures that are keyword rich then the spiders, bots, whatever you want to call them can pick up on the keyword rich alt tags.

Yeah, I think this issue was raised before in this forum. It's true to say that using the alt tag is actually important so that those browsers who have image reading turned off can still see the picture description. And as you've said, alt tags also help bots to understand and pick up the content.
