I beileve you can also check through alexa.
Yahoo is easier for me to get backlinks to.

How can they be sure with yahoo (backlinkwatch) if there is no known way to optimize in yahoo in the first place? Or is it different?

Huh? I don't get it. Basically for all I know optimizing for yahoo is very much the same as what you would do to optimize for site for google... meta tags, backlinks and keyword optimization

Here is best yahoo back link checker tool
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] when u put the url, you can click explore..it will show in top two tabs. pages and links. pages shows total no of pages and links show your all internal pages links and other inbound links.

type linl: then you url and press entre to get the back links of you site. If you require all links including the internal pages then use entire site option on the top
