POWERSET has released new tools for searching Wikipedia that use conventional phrasing instead of keywords, in contrast with Google. The new technology breaks down the meaning of words and sentences into related concepts, freeing users from typing in the exact words.

This is what they claim it does:
On the search results page, Powerset gives more accurate results, often answering questions directly, and aggregates information from across multiple articles ... and I like it already

Nice concept. I think it's pretty cool. All wikipedia related topics are grouped together and presented in a single page. But the downside is that it is only limited to wiki.

Let hope that the limitation to wiki will be lifed soon and powerset become a full fledged search engine giving google a run for the money.

I think what makes them special is that they thrive on much smaller and specialized niche such as providing only for wiki.
If they go global, then they have to go against the likes of google, msn and yahoo.

A case of "small is beautiful" and avoiding headon competition with big boys by staying in a niche I guess
