I am planning to start a new forum & blog, whats the best way to do SEO for it?

Hi Friends, Please tell me, how to improve google ranking and other search engine rankings of a web site. My forum will be on Simple Machine Forum and blog will be word press.

Google ranking or serp mainly depends on your link popularity although there are some other factors taken into consideration such as keyword combination and optimization. According to google there are over 400 criteria which they use for the ranking and so far webmasters overall mainly concentrate on what they know.
Seriously there's no way to control where we want to be so as a guideline link building and keyword optimization are the two methods which webmasters focus on.

In few words "Content is the king" If you have some really good content the Google loves you at all times if not you cant blame others.

And with Word press or SMF you really don't need to worry about the SEO part and all. They are very well optimized and you can even use some advanced plugins which will provide the best results.

It's a very time consuming process because there are different areas to look into. Other than content, link building part is also equally important. These days, one also need to fully utilize social media marketing to promote the site like digg, twitter or even facebook or myspace.

Agree that link building is equally important but if you have high quality and updated content others actually link to you or do link building for you quoting reference to your articles etc.

And ye not to neglect the power and abilities social networks and sites like twitter have. They have even made the big guys crazy behind them.

Yes, link building is always the difficult part. It's even harder compared to adding content since you could spent a whole day but ended up with only few links. I agree also that if you have quality content people would naturally link back to you.
