Altavista: The forgotten search engine?

I still remember at one time, Altavista used to be one of the widely used search engine around. Today, I think not many people are using it anymore. Most of the search results may turn out to be not relevant and people started to switch to either Google or Yahoo. Any other reasons to that?

I think even today it is used. Isan it?? For altavista you dont nee any special efforts to get indexed into them. They use Yahoo for indexing their engine. Once you are into yahoo you suerly get into altavista too.

I used it before but lately Google has taken over the search engine market.
Now, as a web master, I only use it to submit my websites, for internet searching I have been using Google for a long time.
Really, the new generation of internet users do not even know Altavista, they go directly to Google.

I'm not forgot this search engine. I always use it when i'm online. Its also fast like google and yahoo search engine. Its fine and i believe some of us also still use it until today. But if you ask some people, not many of them use altavista anymore..

Actually I noticed that I haven't used or given Altavista much though lately. When I had my first website though I was sure to make sure I got submitted. I think it is a good search engine but just has not grown and expanded as much as the other biggies.

Yes, Altavista has seemed to have died down as others such as Google/Yahoo! have grown. I think possibly one day this search engine might fail as the majority use Google and the other major Search Engines more often.

Maybe. But its not died to me. Somtiems, i always try it for my new project. I always use different search engine for my new project. Its need to get some feedback and response from this seach engine. I think its good because my site alraedy list at altavista easily..

Well if it got listed in altavista, what did you do to get them to index your site? Submission or automatic indexing.

NOt really sure. But maybe auto index.

For me, altavista looks like MSN search engine. I'm use them. Just not always..

Well I just did a random cross check on all my sites. Seems that all were indexed and the best is that there's no submission needed. Altavista I guess still works

I think there's only two reasons why altavista is not so popular anymore. Too many rivals, and they doesn't seem to comes up with a new interesting features.

Maybe. Too many rival really make many small search engine dies. Nothing we can do with that. Its depend on how the owner promote his search engine. If not famous and many people know about that, how we will use it right?

I think they not just need more promotion, but also more budget. I'm sure they don't have a lot of sponsor these days, when google and yahoo is all over the net.
