Today I tried to access my old hotmail account which I created some time ago and was actively using it back then. It was like 1 year ++ since I last accessed it. But today I was shocked to find out that the account no longer exist. The information when I try to log in and I get the message "The e-mail address or password is incorrect. Please try again.". I swear that the address is correct and the password is valid because I do keep a file for all the passwords and email accounts. Does this ever happened to you with Hotmail account?

May be something like they deleate the accounts which are inactive for a certain period. Maximum posibilities of they having deleated it cos you said that you dint use it for long.
But they should have sent you a mail to your secand email if it was on board. If not then how could they mail you in that case. Do you think that there are posiblities of that account being hacked???? Ok what you can try is just send a mail to your hotmail account from any other account you hold. Check if it gets bounced or delivered. May get some clue there

I'm sure the account is no longer there when I get that message. In fact when I try to register a new account using the same old name, IT IS actually possible. I got shocked because of this. This is a case of account getting deleted. Well that never happens to me to my other email accounts from other providers.

I use hotmail all the time and when you sign up for hotmail they tell you right then that you must at least log into your account once every six months or the account will automatically be deleted. I remember reading that because I wrote down the date - 6 months later - so that I would make sure that I logged into my account even if I did nothing else with it. I have 4 or 5 hotmail email addresses that I want to keep so I keep on top of this.

Oh I see, that's the reason why. Mine has been inactive longer than the period so it gets deleted. However, I don't think MSN has to right to do that. 6 months period is too short. Just imagine, there's a possibility that you might not access your account for long period. I mean like going outstation or working in place whereby finding net connection is a problem.

Some may not think this is fair for hotmail to do this but let's take a moment to look at it from thier side - Hotmail has to pay for the space it uses on the internet - they are paying someone - somewhere. They offer us this free hotmail account but in actuality - someone is paying for it - either hotmail themselves or the advertisers. So hotmail gives away these free accounts so everyone signs up - takes up space and then never comes back. Hotmail or someone is paying for wasted space. So to fix this problem - hotmail just says you must log in to your account once every 6 months - just log in - you don't have to use it - don't have to send an email to hotmail saying you are there or anything else. Just go somewhere - log in to your account and log off and you are good to go for another 6 months. There is internet service ALMOST everywhere in the world - even if you have to go to a public place to use the computer there - you can log into hotmail from ANY computer that has internet access anywhere. You can even call your mom and have her log in for you.... there are many ways to make sure your accounts do not get deleted. Remember - we are getting this for free - it is a small price to pay to be asked to log in once in a while.

But this doesn't happen to Yahoo. I mean 6 months is pretty short period. At least if they intend to do that, they should have indicate a clear warning before you sign up. I found out about this 6 month timeline today.

Okay,
Perhaps I am wrong or perhaps hotmail changed something but I remember when I signed up years ago they posted it to my right away, as I was signing up I was told that I had to log in every six months. It is an inconvenience especially when others do not follow the same protocol but each business sets things up as they see fit. If hotmail shuts you out too fast then you should use another free service that suits you better and forget about hotmail. Sorry that you lost something that was valuable to you. All that can happen now is that we move forward. best of luck to you. Connie |

Nah...my focus now is only on Yahoo and Gmail. I was also contemplating of dropping Yahoo Mail altogether due to the junk mails setting. Gmail should be the choice at the moment.
