I know even a few years ago the MSN search engine was still pretty popular. Now it seems to have fallen way behind. It is even pretty far behind Yahoo these days.

I think it is! Not much traffic it gets to your site which itself means that very less people preffer to use it. Comparatively the the traffic from Yahoo seems to be good enough though not eual to Google

Also their spiders dont seem efficient enough. For the month of JAN i had 38 hits of Yahoo spiders and 18 of Google. But MSN seems to be nowhere in the list

Yeh I do notice that my websites get a fair amount of visitors from Yahoo as well. It just seems that Google has become so much more popular and profitable.

I'm not sure about that. For me, its only fallen between google and yahoo. Its still popular at some country. But my honest answer, i'm not interested with msn search or microsoft. Maybe because i familiar with yahoo and google only.

MSN is lagging further behind each days. Seems that nobody is using this search engine anymore. Maybe a few but not many people. It's the third choice in everybody's eyes.

Don't said like that. I still using msn search engine even not everyday. I still support msn even i'm famliar with yahoo and google search engine. What they need to do is make something new like make one program like adsense and adword. I believe many people love to give a try.

The problem with MSN and Yahoo is that the pages are too "busy" as in there is way to much content (tho you can change it) on each site whereas google is very clean and simple, and thats what people want

Yeah, I think that's the business model to their success. They mentioned it before saying that their core focus in actually in search engine in the first place. That's why you can see the main index page is only the search box.
