Well there are enough school dropouts so I consider that beyond controversy As for killing netscape, I am sure you know how he used bundling IE with the OS to armtwist Compaq and other hardware companies. This and other questionable practices were subjects of probes by DOJ.

From what I have seen, heard and read about. Yes he has his bad points but he also is a good man at heart. If it wasnt for him (and his crack squad) we wouldnt be using one of the main OS's in the world. Well done to him and his company.

(plus a job with them pays ALOT - even low level)

I have to disagree with you on that, Mr Moderator (my congratulations to you!) . My take is that Gates is a evil man in his business practice. He somehow has some conscience and set up the Gates and Melinda Foundation as atonement.

Lol not exactly he has failed. Its time. No one can stay undisputed at all times.

Its his lag phase right now.

The thing is that right now the insurance, banking, finance and marketing sector has an upper hand as compared to IT sector. Its booming right now as compared to IT sector. So thats the basic reason that ther's ups and downs.

And not to forget the good work done by Bill Gates towards charity and the poor and needy. I dont think any other business man or rich has done that.

So considering that i still consider him to be the riches man.

That guy may be despised by others for his part at crushing competitors but I think that's pretty normal in a business. However, when we look at the other round, he has also played his part contributing back to the community.

Personally I feel that his setting up of the Gates and Melinda Foundation is an act of atonement for his ruthless business dealings.

I dont see it as atonement, I think that deepdown he's a nice guy but the world doesnt see that because of his vast fortunes. In the end yes money is the route of all evil unless you know how to use it and i think he does

You are really amazing with to come up with that statement
Ruthless??? Gates and Melinda Foundation is a honest and charitable organization benefiting countless people. If he really does something really wrong, I don't think that setting the foundation is going to help anyway. But then, I don't think he owe anybody or have done anything wrong to deserve that kind of remark.

Hi Hwang I stand by my words

His business practices are definitely unethical if not illegal.

His foundation is doing a great job much better than other charities and for that I salute him and Melinda French.

I wouldnt say illegal, he had to split microsoft into different companies so he didnt break the law, he also put money into other companies so they could survive

The DOJ (Dept of Justice USA) has slapped Microsoft on the wrist by signing a toothless consent agreement -but I think state governments are taking a harder line. And the EU countries are definitely seeing his practices as illegal and anti-competitive.

Remember Bill Gates owns microsoft, but like most massive companies its also owned by other people (smaller share holders and major share holders) and in the end whats to say that a few years back he said to a group of people and said:

"Right, Im only a poster boy now, you guys run the company" - These people then screwed everything up and break the law, Bill Gates gets the flack because its his company, not really fair to blame it all on him
