Will having meta tags make any difference?

My site got indexed right after a few days my adsense account was created. I haven't inserted any meta tags during that time when it got indexed. However, when I google around on topics related to SEO, it was said that having meta tags could help on making your site popular. Will it make any difference at all if I were to insert it? How about other user's experience?

I would agree you and say that they are important. Even i noticed that when a search querry is initalised search engine first looks for meta tags. I have heard people saying that this is not the case with google. That may be true but others do use metatags.

Even with google when a search is executed did you notice the url bar? It shows something like http// www google com/search?hl=en&q=a&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

Only thing I am worried about it is does it have any adverse effect on adsense running on a site or can that lend you in trouble and get your adsense banned?

Meta tags are important but not as it used to be some years back for Google. Now, meta-descriptions are also more important for google. They show up when in the search page for websites. So meta-tags are always important only you have to find how to make it more effective.
