Sometimes Page Rank can be very unpredictable. If I remember correctly, there was a thread created by life31 about his dating sites suddenly gaining PR 1 even though he has sort of abandoned it.
Most of the time, there are also weird stuff happening like internal pages gaining higher ranking compared to the homepage.
