Default How to remove "target placement" for adsense ads

If you are an adwords advertiser, I'm sure you have heard of paying low amount fees by using target placement to get your ads across. But my concern as a publisher earning from adsense is to remove target placement to weed out those low paying ads. Any idea how I can do that? Is there any option under our adsense account which we can play around to disable ads "target placement'?

I have heard people doing something like that but havent yet personally tried. They say that you can filter ads but did not find any visible option for that yet.

Possibly looking forwards for a reply from someone else more knowledged.

BTW miss Jordi these days. He possibly has an answer to every question which no one else could answer I remember him helping on a couple of occasions

Yeah, I wonder where Jordi is....
I can actually use the competitive ads filtering but too bad, there's only 200 max limit of url which can add to the list. That's why I'm looking into this option.

No. I'm referring to ads filtering in adsense account. Don't confuse with this one.

Target placement is another method whereby you can prevent advertiser offering cheap bidding that pays per impression from securing an ad space on your site/blog.

I am just a little late

Campaign Summary > Campaign # > View all ad groups > Placements > Edit placements and bids
Once there you can also customize the individual bid amounts by url if you want.

Sorry, but I did get confused.
I was referring to adwords.

I'll have a look at adsense later on.

Thumbs up Re: How to remove "target placement" for adsense ads

Quote:
AdSense Setup > Competitive Ad Filter
The Competitive Ad Filter enables you to block specific ads, such as competitors' ads, from appearing on your pages. Entering a more general URL will block a wider range of ads; entering a more specific URL will block a smaller range of ads. For example, by entering a top level domain such as "example.com", you'll also block all ads that link to any sub-directories of that domain, like "forums.example.com". Review the examples below to learn how you can create filters that will block only the range of ads you want.

You can block an ad by entering either its display URL or destination URL.

Just enter URLs to filter from ads on your content pages, then click Save changes.

Quote:
Examples:
Most broad example.com
Less broad www*example.com (Note that you have to change * for .)
More specific forums.example.com
Most specific forums.example.com/page

Default Re: How to remove "target placement" for adsense ads

Uh...Thanks Jordi, but I think that has been mentioned a lot of times in the forum before. Basically the url list only allows only 200 url to be added and thus it's always not sufficient. Most of these advertisers usually target specific sites with certain keywords and I think the most effective way is to directly block your site from being placement targeted. From what I know based on info searching, there's a way which is to emaill google directly and requested for site removal from being placement targeted. However, my email has not been replied until today.

Sorry hwang , I completely missed the main point.

Do you have some many competitors trying to put targeted ads in your site?
or
you just what to block everyone in the niche ?
or
you have many sites under the same adsense account ?

I am trying to find out how you got to this situation where you need to block more than 200 sites.

Let's see what google say in the reply. I am very curious about it.
Who knows, maybe I will need this information in the future. I really hope not, but again, who knows.

Well if you check the advanced report, there's a selection menu to display how many of those ads that appear are actually placement targeted. Usually based on the number of impression which I got in a single day, the placement targeted ads made up about 10-20% which means that basically I'm giving away cheap ad slots.

Default Re: How to remove "target placement" for adsense ads

I think that it doesn't work like this. Anyone can try to put ads in any site, but the adsense algo doesn't change with this. This means that the ads are still displayed according to the same parameters, so if one particular ad shows up in a page of your website, it is because of the content you have in that particular page.
It doesn't matter who the ad is from, you should still get the same value for your clicks. It is up to the guys bidding in adword. The highest bidder will get the ad displayed regardless of who they are.

Maybe you want to unblock those 200 competitors and let them bid against each other to put ads in your site. Maybe that will increase the value of your clicks.

Well beats me....Most of the time, some non-related ads will show up which is totally non related and that leads to my suspicion whether those are placement targeted.

Hi guys,

Just to clear up some doubts, these are some of the extract from net info regarding placement targeting. As you can see adwords advertisers are given two options to select whether they want go towards keywords-placement or url/domain-placement and thus they can really choose.
