There has been recent buzz around saying that Google is penalizing websites if they found out that you are engaging in the selling of paid links. I think they are really serious about ensuring that ONLY quality sites get to the top.

Yes. After their last update. My old blog go down from PR2 to PR0 . But my new blog change a lots because their PR from PR0 raise to PR2. Its a bad and happy news for me actually. Its still fine with me and i hope my blog will got a good PR soon.

Yes they have ben penalizing sites. Manny of the sites have got a PR0 or a lesser PR than what they initially had. Might be you are right, that they are taking steps to get the good sites up.

I even heard people saying that this time they considered the free directory links as paid links and concluded their PR.

i've heard they were going to back off in this matter but only AFTER the last PR update. a lot of people have lost a lot of money from this. I also hate those new Google Ads. Google is not my friend anymore

Payperpost was one such site that made every one loose theri PR , i have heard ppl having PR5 loosing their PR to 0
its sad when such things happen but u cant stop google, u cant say anything to rhem they are the king

i think once they penalize you and didn't remove the paid links they will not give you old pr back? kinda sad really. I am also trying to be careful about those because those could get you dropped for good.
