Google has been warned by EU data protection chief that the Street View feature of Google Maps run against European privacy laws if it launches in EU countries.

Wow, never thought by displaying street view could be against and contravene the law. I don't see there's any issue to providing information that can help a lot of people.

The fact is that Google Earth can really zoom into a area to show frightening details. Of course, privacy laws in the EU countries are stricter.

Yes, but if people really wanted to know where I lived they would just go to street.
Google Earth is just like a big visual map.
If people are near by enough to be able to get to my road, they wouldn't need to use Google Earth.

You are talking about how a normal person would do under normal circumstances. But there are many strange people like voyeurs who just like to look from a distance.

All you need to do is get someones address and you can easily find out where it is by anything now a days. Its all a pain lol

I still think Google Earth is one of the most useful things on the net, despite all the stalking risks attached to it.

I think Google Earth's usefulness outweighs the disadvantages. But perhaps there should be some kind of limit on its use; again enforcement of such rules would create more problems.
