Gates has a point; Microsoft is tops when IBM did not realize the importance of the operating system. It is a different situation with respect to Google - they did the right night for the internet market and Microsoft is left behind in the dust trying to play catch up and not succeeding yet.

Yeah, I agree with what he said. There are things that Microsoft did that got them in front. Most brutal was destruction of his main rivals. But definitely all is only true to certain extent. He also made a mistake as well through the path of his journey.

Let history be the judge of this man called Gates who had changed the PC industry but failed to mould the internet revolution to his own liking.
Probably the most celebrated school dropout! |

Well for me, I wouldn't say he's the greatest but definitely he's among the best. Regardless of what other noobs may think, I feel that without this man, a lot about software world would have been different. Starting from Windows 3.1 up till today, just look at how many new things have been changed.

Sorry, what are noobs, hwang?
For better or worse, Gates will be ranked one of the most influential person in the IT world. 64K ought to be enough for everyone - remember who said that ? |

There is a very intresting book that talks about IBM's turnaround and how IBM gave the access to microsoft's OS despite having a better OS in place, beacuse they felt that PC market wouldn't really grow much. Its a fascinating read on the archaic struggling IBM and the changing market scenario with likes of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates emerging very quickly. Its called 'Who says Elephants Can't Dance' by Lou Gerstner.
