It’s 1981 and the law is investigating and searching for the whereabouts of a suspect. It turns out that he is wanted in other places for past transgressions but that information and any help from authorities in that area takes time. Yes law enforcement is divided in geographical territories and the records and data is kept by the law enforcement in those areas. Any information shared is over the phone, mail, or fax. Often times it is only a coincidence that investigators even knew there was relevant information related to one of their suspects.

Thus it was far too easy for criminals to roam about across borders with the comfort of knowing that information of their behavior would be lagging behind. Yes it was common for police and law enforcement to be chasing the same perpetrator in multiple places and not know about it. The worse part of that is that if they could have shared data they would have a much better chance at finding them.

That day has arrived. Yes among the numerous advances in technology and the expansion of the Internet has done more than just offer the world with new toys and conveniently fun communication. Indeed along with web sites, networks, chat rooms, email, instant messaging and the like the Internet connected legal departments the world over.

Now when someone is apprehended or taken in for questioning the legal authorities can run that persons information into a legal network and learn valuable information relating to that person. Any brush with the law they had in the past or any ongoing investigations will surface. This immediately opens dialog between law enforcement agencies that can help or may also be looking for the same person.

This data may range from things past arrests, outstanding warrants, case files and other valuable information concerning persons and/or investigations or cases. This information can also assist the legal entities of the law to prosecute a case. All of this makes it extremely hard for people to become simply flee as a fugitive of the law and find a measure of safety simply by traveling out of a law enforcement region where the authorities know nothing or would have previously had a difficult time in knowing anything about them.

No more. And maybe you can be a part of this network and assist the good guys in catching the bad guys. You be as the Internet and Intranet networks become more and more a part of society, municipalities the world over is making wise use of this technology also. As a result jobs are in demand for researchers to manage this investigative tool.

Now of course many of these jobs are in house and the research is done by a hired staff. Nevertheless in these times of economic struggles many of us could use a reliable job. By all means then it would be wise to look into this branch of Internet research and then look into how one can apply a position on a research staff.

This does not leave independent researchers out of the loop however. The harsh reality of a lagging economy and the practical realities of operating a law enforcement agency is there are costs involved. This means that smaller communities probably do not have the resources to maintain a research staff. This often times leads to the contracting of independent researchers to do the leg work for them on a case to case basis when extensive research will be beneficial.

But there is more. The age of the Internet has also brought upon us Internet crimes. Yes the Internet has been used for fraud, identity theft, criminal scams, and predatory crimes to name a few. This has also led to the hiring of Internet officers and researchers to monitor the Internet to isolate as many Internet culprits as possible. Thankfully there has been much success in this area.

Here again though financial considerations have dictated and has put limits on how far some law agencies can go to monitor Internet activities. This has opened the door for independent researchers to assist local financially strapped police departments who cannot man a department staff.

These independent researchers have been very helpful in finding on line predators and scam artists. Nonetheless there is more work and research to be done. This could be where you come in.

Think about it. Among the many opportunities for employment and businesses that the Internet provides there are ways to earn an income and help the good guys at the same time!
